I was asked to create some branding for a beauty blog: Make-Up of Mayhem. After an in-depth discussion to understand exactly what image the client wanted to portray on her site, we came up with some ideas based around her key ethos. Lois blogs in a very down-to-earth, authentic way which always portrays her sometimes wacky and very colourful character. To reflect this, her branding focusses on her - that's what draws people to her blog and that is her strength.
We decided to include her name to centre the illustration on. The rest of the illustration, surrounding her name, was a pattern made up of all of her favourite things, most of which feature in her blog posts in one way or another.
We concentrated on flowers initially, selecting some of her best-loved blooms through which I wove some beauty products; lipstick and nail varnish, a cupcake for her love of baking, a bee for her busy life-style, and her beloved pooch; Molly.
I filled the flowers with animal print patterns and patterns to reflect fabrics as a nod to her love of fashion; another feature of her blog posts.
The illustration was created digitally, though hand-drawn on an iPad pro with an Apple pencil.
This video is a little insight into the process of building up the layers of the illustration.
I love how the name seems to appear as if by magic as the flowers bloom round it!
