This custom wedding illustration was created to surround the letterforms with a bespoke pattern filled with some of the things that celebrate the couple's journey together.
The illustration includes local landmarks; Birmingham's famous Selfridge's building and Anthony Gormley's Iron Man Statue, which represent this wonderful city where the couple live and are getting married. Alongside the local landmarks, California's Big Sur Bridge runs between both of the couple's initials signalling the connection between them as well as holding a special significance to the couple from a visit there. The date of their wedding and the name of their house sit on decorative scrolls at the top and bottom of the centre. The couple's love of foxes and flowers is shown through the fox silhouettes and the hydrangeas and peonies that decorate the monogram. The pattern in the background is inspired by the overlapping concentric circles of the Birmingham Library, which was adapted to create tiny flower shapes in the joins.
The illustration was created as an original ink drawing that the couple will own as a keepsake to commemorate their wedding day. It was also digitised and supplied to the couple as digital files, which they then used to create some on-the-day wedding stationery for their Birmingham wedding.
I haven't seen the photographs from the day yet but I can't wait to see how the illustration looked decorating their wedding venue!
