Help the Homeless this Winter
Think of winter, cold weather, Christmas time and you will usually conjure up images of cosy nights in with your loved ones, binge watching Christmas films and indulging in your favourite comfort foods.
Now imagine winter, cold weather and Christmas time without a place to refuge from the cold, without a home filled with family, loved ones, fireplaces, televisions and cupboards full of food.
Home is an amenity we can often take for granted.
That’s why this year I am trying to raise money to help a local charity here in Birmingham called Let’s Feed Brum.
By selling some prints of the word “Home” as well as the individual letters “H” “O” “M” and “E”, I am hoping to raise some money to donate to the charity as well as raising awareness of the problem of homelessness in our city.
Let’s Feed Brum are fighting the good fight in trying to tackle homelessness in Birmingham. They work hard to provide food, drink, essential supplies and friendship to those living on the streets and to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness in the community.
Did you know, for example, that Birmingham has the second largest homeless community in the UK?
Having spent some time volunteering with Let’s Feed Brum (LFB) earlier this year, I felt the heartbreak of the troubles facing those who don’t have a place to call home and also felt the small joy of being able to provide hot food, supplies and the comfort of someone stopping to acknowledge you rather than walking by.
LFB cleverly tackle food waste alongside their community outreach endeavours by teaming up with restaurants in and around Birmingham who provide food that would have otherwise gone to waste. Many restaurants also supply hot, cooked food, which the LFB volunteers serve 6 nights a week in the city centre.
Please visit their website to find out more and, even better, pledge some support in some way if you can. www.letsfeedbrum.com
If you are looking for a last minute Christmas present for somebody, why not buy them something beautiful whilst making a contribution to a fantastic charity?
All the money made from the sale of the print will go straight to Let’s Feed Brum to continue to fund the wonderful work they do.
Good feels all round!
